Spoilers Ahead! Recap of Season 2: Episode 12
The episode started off with an expected burial for Dale, as Rick led the sayings for their fallen friend. Dale left them with thoughts of humanity in their mind, and that’s something I think will be in the group’s minds for a while. Carl still felt guilty about not acting when in the woods and went to Shane, asking him to take the gun he stole from Daryl and return it – while also telling Shane about the Walker that killed Dale. Shane goes to tell Rick about Carl, but he seemed to be more focused on ensuring that ‘Operation Free Randal’ will go smoothly – which would include keeping Shane away from him.
The main focus of the episode not only included freeing Randal, but also focused on moving the group into Hershel’s house and preparing for the seasonal change. Hershel offered up his room to Lori, Rick, and Carl, so that she may have a comfortable space to be for her pregnancy.
Shane is off near a tower building what appears to be a nice perch for lookouts to be posted when Lori comes by and discusses how thankful she was to be saved by him and that she is still unsure on who the actual father of her unborn child is.
Rick catches up with Carl and they talk about the past, the death that will come to everyone at some point, and how things have and are changing. He gives Carl the gun officially and they leave the conversation a bit better.
Back in the barn, Randal is shown desperately trying to free himself from captivity when Shane pops in to free him. They both go into the woods, where Shane tells Randal that he wants to go to their camp and join them. He allows Randal to lead the way and then proceeds to knockout Randal and then injures himself against a tree.
T-Dog is the first to discover Randal is missing and Shane runs out of the woods with a bloody face yelling to everyone that Randal has run off after attacking him. The group goes into lockdown while Rick, Shane, Daryl, and Glenn go searching for Randal. Daryl and Glenn circle back and discover Randal – now a Walker after it is revealed his neck was broken, thanks to Shane – and proceed to but him down. They discover that death despite a bite or scratch from a Walker will ensure you awake as an Undead.
Shane and Rick venture back toward the barn when Rick realizes Shane’s plan: Kill Rick and cover it up with Randal’s disappearance. Shane insists on Rick drawing his gun, but Rick refuses. He closes in on Shane and stabs him in the chest. Laying Shane down to die, Rick is upset that he was forced to kill his best friend. He awaits Shane’s change when Carl comes by – armed with the gun he was given by Rick. Rick tries to explain the situation when an undead Shane approaches him, and is shot in the head by Carl. The shot is revealed to alert many Walkers nearby, and they begin their walk towards them.
There’s only one episode left in the Season, so be sure to check it out next Sunday!
