Walkers lie beside the dying fire

Labels: ,

Spoilers Ahead! Recap of the Season 2 Finale

The Season finale started off with a brief scene with a group of walkers back in Atlanta – just doing their own thing, when a helicopter flies above and gets their attention. This attracts them and they start walking towards its direction. This walking ends up being in the same area where Hershel’s farm is, and they settle out in the woods when they hear the shot that kills undead Shane by Carl. This alerts them to begin walking towards the farm. It’s possible that their journey started from season one since Rick also spotted a helicopter while in Atlanta.

While walking back, Carl wonders if Shane was bitten before he put him down, and Rick hesitates to answer when suddenly they spot the massive group of Walkers coming right for them. Far from the house, they make a dash to the barn, where Rick lays out gasoline and tasks Carl with lighting up the barn once Rick gives the go-ahead. While they take out at least fifteen Walkers or so, they still have many to deal with.

Back in the house, Glenn and Daryl arrive back to tell the group about Randal, and Lori notices that Carl is gone from the house when they finally spot the Herd on the farm. While escaping is the main goal, the group also begins taking out some of the Walkers while others can get to the vehicles. Back at the barn, Carl and Rick are on top of the roof when Jimmy comes by in the RV. He stops and lets them jump on to escape, but the RV door wasn’t locked, allowing Walkers to get and they begin eating poor Jimmy. Rick and Carl get off from the back and begin looking for the others near the house, while Hershel is seen gathering weapons and takes a shotgun – then quickly starts dispatching Walkers that get nearby.

“This is my farm. I’ll die here.”

When it seems like he may be right about dying, Rick shows up and takes out a Walker who was about to take a bite out of Hershel. They make their way towards a vehicle, as they are under the assumption that everyone else will meet up on the highway – the same fateful spot where they first lost Sophia.

Before they left, Lori, T-Dog, and Maggie’s younger sister leave, but Patricia was not so lucky as she was grabbed and take down by multiple Walkers. Carol also gets cornered, but Andrea saves her, but gets surrounded so she makes a run into the woods – toting the gun bag that contains extra ammo. Daryl comes around on his bike, and picks up Carol as they leave to go towards the highway. Glenn and Maggie make it out too, and they pull over to switch positions since Maggie is upset and worried about her family. Glenn tells her he loves her and they drive toward the highway.

As Rick drives off, Hershel looks back to see his barn burned down and his home overrun by Walkers. Rick, Carl and Hershel are the first to make it to the highway, and after a while, they worry that everyone else may have went different ways. They spot a lone Walker and let him pass, and when Rick is considering just leaving with Carl, he hears the sounds of approaching vehicles and reunites with the group – and thankfully Lori as well. They drive out for a while, but stop when Rick begins to get low on fuel.

With some time to talk, the group go into discussion of Shane and how he was a Walker when Rick tells them a secret he’s known since the Season 1 finale: Jenner whispered to him that everyone’s infected, so upon death they will turn. The group wonders why Rick would keep this secret, but he states he wasn’t even sure it was true until Shane. He goes off on his own to cool down when Lori comes to comfort him – he uses this to tell her that he killed Shane and that he wanted to stop him and all the trouble he was causing. Even though she told Rick about how Shane was dangerous, she is still shocked and walks away from Rick.

Andrea is shown again fending of Walkers – but barely since she is exhausted and still carrying the weapons. When one Walker appears to finish her off, it gets slice by a sword, held by a mysterious person with two Walkers chained up, with their mouth and arms cut off. This mysterious person is Michonne, one of the coolest characters from the comic who will no doubt be a great addition to Season 3.

Back at camp with Rick’s group, he defends himself against his actions, telling everyone that they can leave if they want, and that if they are going to stay, they need to trust him.

“There is no more democracy! My hands are clean!"

The camera then zooms out, and shows what is nearby: a prison.

Could there be safety behind bars?

‘Better Angels’ than Demons on the Walking Dead

Spoilers Ahead! Recap of Season 2: Episode 12

The episode started off with an expected burial for Dale, as Rick led the sayings for their fallen friend. Dale left them with thoughts of humanity in their mind, and that’s something I think will be in the group’s minds for a while. Carl still felt guilty about not acting when in the woods and went to Shane, asking him to take the gun he stole from Daryl and return it – while also telling Shane about the Walker that killed Dale. Shane goes to tell Rick about Carl, but he seemed to be more focused on ensuring that ‘Operation Free Randal’ will go smoothly – which would include keeping Shane away from him.

The main focus of the episode not only included freeing Randal, but also focused on moving the group into Hershel’s house and preparing for the seasonal change. Hershel offered up his room to Lori, Rick, and Carl, so that she may have a comfortable space to be for her pregnancy.

Shane is off near a tower building what appears to be a nice perch for lookouts to be posted when Lori comes by and discusses how thankful she was to be saved by him and that she is still unsure on who the actual father of her unborn child is.

Rick catches up with Carl and they talk about the past, the death that will come to everyone at some point, and how things have and are changing. He gives Carl the gun officially and they leave the conversation a bit better.

Back in the barn, Randal is shown desperately trying to free himself from captivity when Shane pops in to free him. They both go into the woods, where Shane tells Randal that he wants to go to their camp and join them. He allows Randal to lead the way and then proceeds to knockout Randal and then injures himself against a tree.

T-Dog is the first to discover Randal is missing and Shane runs out of the woods with a bloody face yelling to everyone that Randal has run off after attacking him. The group goes into lockdown while Rick, Shane, Daryl, and Glenn go searching for Randal. Daryl and Glenn circle back and discover Randal – now a Walker after it is revealed his neck was broken, thanks to Shane – and proceed to but him down. They discover that death despite a bite or scratch from a Walker will ensure you awake as an Undead.

Shane and Rick venture back toward the barn when Rick realizes Shane’s plan: Kill Rick and cover it up with Randal’s disappearance. Shane insists on Rick drawing his gun, but Rick refuses. He closes in on Shane and stabs him in the chest. Laying Shane down to die, Rick is upset that he was forced to kill his best friend. He awaits Shane’s change when Carl comes by – armed with the gun he was given by Rick. Rick tries to explain the situation when an undead Shane approaches him, and is shot in the head by Carl. The shot is revealed to alert many Walkers nearby, and they begin their walk towards them.

There’s only one episode left in the Season, so be sure to check it out next Sunday!

Judge, Jury, Executioner: It's all about survival now

Spoilers Ahead! Recap of Season 2: Episode 11

It must be hard to be a kid during a Zombie Apocalypse. After the group lost Sophia, Carl found himself without someone around his age to hang out with, and slowly had to witness the craziness of what the group has to do to survive. He spent the episode wondering around, insulting Carol and stealing a gun in the process. His father, who told them to think about his actions and find a way to apologize to Carol, then went to hear Dale out on the topic of Randal, who was recently interrogated by Daryl.

While speaking to Daryl, Randal told him that his group have about 30 men, who found a group of female survivors and took advantage of them – while the girls’ father was forced to watch. Yeah, Randal’s groups aren’t nice people, but that should already be well known based on the previous episodes. After finding out this knowledge, the group feels like the decision should be one of survival, but Dale still refuses, stating it would really be the end of their past and humanity.

Before the group met in Hershel’s house to discuss Randal, Carl wondered over to Daryl’s campsite and checked out his bike – then went through his stuff and took out a gun from the bike’s side compartment and went into the forest. Carl then went into the wood and found a lone walker who was stuck in the mud. Carl first began throwing rocks at him, but then he tried to kill him with the gun but panicked when the walker got loose. Dropping the gun, Carl runs back to camp and the walker starts to get free from the mud.

Back at the meeting, the group decides to ultimately kill Randal, and Rick, Shane, and Daryl take him to the barn. Daryl puts him on his knees, and Rick says those famous words:

“Any last words?”

In the background, Carl is watching.

“Do it, Dad. Kill him.”

Rick was ready to kill Randal, but couldn’t with his son there. They delay the kill, and Dale spots one of Hershel’s cattle – laying wounded in the grass from a attack. Then appears a walker, who knocks Dale down and claws into his chest, severly wounding him. The group runs over and kills the walker, but Dale is badly hurt and suffering. Daryl apologizes and then puts Dale out of his misery with a gunshot. Carl comes by and spots the walker – the very one he tried and failed to kill earlier in the woods.
